Hannah BeattieHannah Beattie is an artist, photographer and blogger with a particular interest in incorporating typically domestic or ‘low-art’ mediums (such as watercolour, craft and cross-stitch) into her work.
Hannah’s work plays with notions of sentimentality and romanticism; exploring art’s role as both a device of distraction (o diffuse and offer relief from life’s difficult realities) and also the means to confront and study the details of beauty, intimacy, pain and sensation. Sometimes at once erotic, comical and voyeuristic, her works are emotionally engaging, exploring personal histories, beauty and the vulnerabilities and frailties attached to being a body. In recent years her research interests have broadened to include the histories of female sexuality and the taboo and erotisism designed for the female gaze. |
WorkSelected exhibitions include: Jouissance, Massey University 2013, Embracing Discomfort, Left Bank 2014, Observations, 30 Upstairs, 2015.
